Break Description

Alternative Fall Breakers wearing reflective vests pose for the camera with a JMU faculty member in a wheelbarrow in the foreground

Come get down in the dirt with us as we get hands-on experience learning about ways to better care for the environment! Our partner will be Asheville GreenWorks, whose goals include mobilizing the community to improve the local environment and to remove and reduce waste.

We might join in river and road clean-ups, planting pollinator gardens, removing invasive plant species and more. Join our efforts towards environmental awareness and sustainability!

Asheville Youth Mission will provide housing for us in a local church. Plan to bring a sleeping bag and pillow and to sleep on the floor in gender-separated rooms. AYM will also provide several social justice walking tours of Asheville neighborhoods. Plus, they’ll feed us, which will give us even more time to get to know each other, explore, and recover from a hard day’s service. Housing facilities are accessible to those who use wheelchairs.

IMPORTANT: Up-to-date COVID-19 vaccinations are REQUIRED by our partners.
