The Department of Finance and Business Law offers a program leading to a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in finance.

The finance major is designed to prepare students for careers in the financial management of industrial and commercial enterprises; commercial savings and mortgage banking; investment analysis and portfolio management; real estate; insurance; finance positions in federal, state and local governments; and graduate study.

Students with a major in this department are strongly encouraged to purchase their own personal computers. Information on suggested hardware is available through the department office.

The required major courses provide all finance majors with an emphasis in financial management. Electives within the major permit students to obtain an additional emphasis in investment analysis or financial institutions.

A concentration in real estate is designed for students seeking real estate related careers in valuation and analysis, lending, development, corporate real estate, and brokerage, among others.

A concentration in financial engineering is designed for students seeking careers in corporate finance trading, investment and money management, and risk management.

The finance major conforms to the general structure of the B.B.A. degree programs set forth on page 64. The credit-hour requirements for each of the program components are as follow:

Major in Finance (B.B.A. Degree)

First Two Years

During the first two years, students planning to major in finance will complete the lower-level business course requirements and will follow the course schedule set forth on pages 64-65.

Third and Fourth Years

Finance majors will follow the course schedule below to complete the final two years of their program. It is possible to deviate from this program but care must be taken to ensure that all course prerequisites are met.

Concentration in Financial Engineering

First Two Years

In addition, MATH 206, Introductory Calculus II, must be completed prior to the junior year.
