Career Advising Graduate Assistant
Year Started at JMU: 2019

I am one of the Career Advising Graduate Assistants.

My Career Journey

Ryan completed her undergraduate degree at James Madison University (JMU), where she double-majored in sociology and interdisciplinary religion, and minored in mathematics.

After graduation, Ryan spent some time working with Housing and Residence Life at George Mason University. She moved with her partner to Shanghai, China briefly before returning to Harrisonburg. During that time, Ryan spent a year and a half as a stay at home parent/homemaker and is passionate about advocating for parents reentering the workforce. In 2019, Ryan returned to JMU, where she worked with the Office of Residence Life and the School of Professional and Continuing Education. Before coming to the University Career Center, Ryan worked as a reemployment services specialist with the Virginia Employment Commission, where she assisted individuals throughout the Shenandoah Valley with developing personalized reemployment plans.

Presently, Ryan is studying to complete her M.S.Ed. in Adult Education and Human Resource Development. Her areas of interest include: how COVID-19 is impacting the work values of Gen-Z employees, how employee training impacts retention, and addressing employment barriers for job-seekers with prior convictions.
