In my role, my guiding questions are: “Who are our students? Why do they matter? How can we better support them? What can our office do better?” I focus primarily on historically marginalized student populations. Along with individual advising, I collaborate and strategize with staff members, employers, and campus departments to create resources & programs that meet the needs of different student identities- to ensure they are successful in their career journey here and beyond JMU.
My Career Journey
Some of the various careers I’ve considered throughout my life include being an artist, chef, lawyer, social worker, psychologist, and pharmacist. In college, I was heavily involved with nonprofits, volunteering, and leadership activities. This allowed me to gain a good understanding of what I like to do, what I’m good at, who I like being around—and more importantly—things I don’t like. This ultimately led me to pursue a path in Higher Education and Student Affairs. This is where I am now, and I always give myself room to grow, so I view my career journey as something that is ever-changing (which is scary and exciting)!
