Broadly I am interested in evolution, urban ecology, and animal communication. I work in Dr. Moseley’s lab and we are interested in how urbanization affects communication in gray catbirds. Urban environments are characterized as having high levels of noise pollution which has the potential to impact animals that utilize acoustic signaling. For birds, acoustic communication plays a critical role in mate attraction, territory defense, and predator evasion. My aim is to investigate if there are aspects of male catbird song that correlate with reproductive success and determine if correlations vary across rural to urban environments.
