MAKING CONNECTIONS

What is the Mentor Collective?

The Mentor Collective program enhances the student experience by linking them one-on-one with a peer mentor. Incoming freshman are paired with someone invested in their success, with common academic interests, career goals, life challenges and experiences. Mentees will learn what to expect in school, how to approach challenges and gain career advice. At the same time, mentors will build their networks and develop skills to become better professionals and leaders.

How does it work?

Mentees will be matched with a peer mentor based on common interests, background, academics, and professional aspirations. To get started, mentees and mentors register and complete an online survey to paint a holistic picture of their interests and experiences.

Once a mentee and mentor are matched, they will decide how and how often to connect.

An automated SMS text message introduces the mentee and mentor to get the ball rolling.

Who can participate?

We are actively enrolling students and mentors for the upcoming school year!

Mentee > incoming freshman in the College of Visual and Performing Arts
Mentor > upcoming junior or senior actively enrolled in the College of Visual and Performing Arts

What can you talk about to start building a connection? Try the following;

  • How will my major impact my professional options?
  • How do I balance the demands of school, responsibilities, and socializing?
  • How can I set myself up for academic, social, and career success?
  • How do I make connections with peers and professional contacts?
