Shaw was invited by the White House to design an egg for the First Lady's Easter Egg Roll. The egg is now part of the Smithsonian Permanent Collection.

Shaw currently works as a graphic designer for Berkshire Hathaway Media Group, designing a myriad of specialty publications. Previously, Shaw worked as:

  • Creative director for USA TODAY / Gannett / USA WEEKEND Magazine for almost 20 years. He worked on a large number of digital startup websites, blogs, widgets, etc., in addition to overseeing the design and photography departments for their 22-million circulation weekly magazine.
  • Art director for a legal graphics firm in Houston called Browning & Co., working with some of the top attorneys in America to create visual storytelling for multi-million dollar civil trials.
  • Art director for an educational software startup in Dallas called Learning Technologies, designing graphical user interfaces for computer-based learning games, plus packaging design, ad copywriting and creation of all consumer-facing materials. 
  • Graphic designer for Richland College Learning Resources Center in Dallas, creating a wide range of graphics and visuals, including posters, brochures, course schedules and other support materials.

Throughout this time, Shaw also maintained a freelance illustration practice creating hundreds of illustration assignments, including magazine covers, billboards and cartoon strips.
