Why JMU?

I chose JMU because the College of Business has a great reputation and is excellent. One of my dreams is to be a successful businessman. Thus, JMU is the Mr. Right for me. Before I came to JMU, I did a great deal of researches about the university. I fell in love with the traditional style buildings and the delicate yet inspiring campus environment.

What's your favorite class?

My favorite class is Interpersonal Skills (COB 202). We learned how to effectively communicate and network in this course and I know it will prove to be very helpful in my future. The skills that I learn through the experienced professors at JMU will be beneficial all throughout my life.

Besides studying, how do you occupy your time?

I spend a lot of my spare time playing sports. As a big fan of sports, I love to play basketball, badminton, and Ping-Pong. I also love to swim and climb at UREC. JMU provides an amazing recreation center for all students to enjoy. This is one of the main things that attracted me to attend JMU.  They offer almost every sport invented at UREC. I also love to hang out with my friends. My friends and I usually have dinner together or watch Netflix.

What clubs and activities are you involved with at JMU?

I am currently involved in Bridge International, a church group for international students. We strive to engage with international students through providing service activities, social networking, and spiritual resources. I am the social event and activity chairman in this group. Also, I am leader of the men’s life group. Our goal is to make international students feel as comfortable and welcome on our campus as possible. Besides that, I am involved in the Chinese Student and Scholar Association.

What do you like best about JMU?

The people and environment at JMU are incredible. All of my classmates are very friendly and we often study together. I have never met one professor who is not willing to help me out, as all of them are very nice and approachable. I think the friendly people I see every day make up the awesome community JMU has to offer. The environment at JMU is gorgeous. Not only are there beautiful and historical stone buildings, but there is also a great courtyard where you can catch some fresh air.

What is the one thing you wish you had known about JMU prior to arriving on campus?

For me, I would like to know who my professors and classmates were going to be. Are they friendly? Will they help me out? These are going to be the people I am around and learn from in this new environment. As an international student, I think coming to another country to study is like stepping into a whole new world. Your parents and friends are not there to support you; you are on your own. It turns out my classmates are extremely friendly, and my professors are super caring and helpful. I am so glad I chose JMU, and that JMU chose me.
