Break Description

Join us for a week of service at Cumberland Island National Seashore. This will be a week full of outdoor service and learning while experiencing the beautiful scenery and wildlife that Cumberland Island has to offer. Cumberland Island is located on the coast of Georgia just north of the Florida border and is home to wild horses, armadillos, sea turtles and lots of history. The National Park Service works to conserve and provide education about National Parks and Monuments, including this national seashore, for current and future generations, as well as maintain the quality of the air, water, and natural beauty. We will spend the week working to clear and reroute trails, repair bridges, replace trail signs, and more!

We will travel by JMU van to St. Marys, GA and spend the night in a local church before catching the morning ferry to the island. For the rest of the week, we will be camping on the island, on a site that has accessible bathrooms and showers. Regarding accessibility, our partners have let us know that, because travel will be almost entirely over sand, ease of movement may be variable. If you have questions about accessibility, please let us know so that we can discuss potential accommodations with our hosts.

Join us as we learn about the environment and how to better serve it as active citizens!
