Break Description

Are you wondering how you can play a part in helping with disaster relief? The mission of Rebuilding Together Baton Rouge is “repairing homes, revitalizing communities, and rebuilding lives.” This non-profit organization provides home repair and restoration services to individuals (with a special focus on the elderly, persons with disabilities, veterans, and low-income homeowners) affected by major flooding. RTBR believes in revitalizing communities and preserving affordable homes by providing free home repairs, improvements, and senior living modifications! We will spend our week volunteering with their staff on special hands-on projects that include carpentry, hanging sheetrock, painting, and laying floor amongst other needs!

**Please be advised that due to the layout of the work sites where we will be volunteering, this break may not be accessible to persons with physical disabilities or impairments. **

Our living accommodations for the week are being graciously provided by University Presbyterian Church, a local community-based religious organization! During our break with RTBR, we will focus on living a conscientious lifestyle. This means limiting our use of technology to fully engage with each other and our work, abstaining from consumption of drugs or alcohol, and adhering to a vegetarian diet. Additionally, we highly encourage our participants to indulge in the one-bag policy; each person should try to pack as minimally as possible while fitting all of their break necessities!

Please keep in mind that Rebuilding Together Baton Rouge requires that all participants have an up-to-date tetanus shot before completing volunteer service.
