Break Description

Join us as we engage in a service-learning experience working with Kentucky refugees! We will be driving south to Louisville to work with Catholic Charities. Catholic Charities is ranked as the fifth largest charity in the United States with many branches spread out nationally. This specific branch's mission is to provide people in need with service and advocate for social justice and calls people of good will to do the same. The Migration and Refugee Services (MRS) program here welcomes refugees with open arms and helps them to escape the persecution they have faced in their native countries. The staff of the MRS program aids refugees from over 30 different countries in finding a home upon their arrival, as well as food, employment, enrolling in school, and learning how to speak English. Our JMU group will be helping the MRS program in their classrooms where they teach English as a secondary language, assisting in the donation room, and working in the Common Earth garden.

Come join us in challenging current stereotypes there are about refugees, helping very appreciative people acclimate into their new homes, and gaining an unforgettable experience!
