Break Description

canyonlands-graphic-.png

Come join us as we serve alongside rangers and maintenance crew amidst the natural sandstone landscape of Canyonlands National Park. We will be working with the Backcountry and Maintenance teams to help in trail and maintenance work as needed by the park. While the needs of the park are always changing, examples of work that previous groups have completed include staining fence rails and benches, painting vault toilets, removing/replacing trail markers, mitigating off-trail tracks, removing litter, and clearing brush. We will be hiking a lot throughout our days and spending our nights under the stars. There will also be opportunities for adventuring in the park and education opportunities such as discussions about Leave No Trace and the environmental issues affecting the park.

In order to fully serve our community partner, participants must be able to hike between 5 and 12 miles a day while carrying up to 25 pounds of gear over rugged desert, canyon terrain. Volunteers must be comfortable in stooped, bending and standing positions for long periods. Due to these work conditions, the break is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible.

Join us to learn more about this incredible ecosystem and the ways we can make a positive impact!
