Break Description

Spend the weekend serving with two amazing partners in Baltimore, MD. A Moveable Feast is a nonprofit organization that provides food and services to individuals suffering from HIV/AIDS, breast cancer, and those afflicted with terminal illness. They foster a community that cares for men, women and children by preparing and delivering nutritious meals and groceries and providing nutritional counseling and other services. We’ll be working in the kitchen (which is, unfortunately, not accessible to those who use wheelchairs). Expect to wash, chop, and bag produce; make sandwiches; package, label, and sort meals; and wash dishes

Civic Works strengthens Baltimore’s communities through education, skills development, and community service. They deliver tangible results through a combination of job training, skills development and community service. We’ll be serving at the Real Food Farm, which improves food access in northeast Baltimore by using a Mobile Market to sell fresh fruit and vegetables and offering a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. Real Food Farm also provides field trips, summer programs, and internships for students and farming training opportunities for adults. Since 2009, Real Food Farm has grown over 60,000 pounds of food and educated over 3,000 people. Our service could include include weeding, invasive species removal, hoophouse construction, compost spreading, bed preparation, and lots more.

Come join us as we pursue food justice in the kitchen and on the farm!
