Break Description

DC-centeral-Kitchen.pngWhile working with these different organizations, the weekend will be focused around a central mission of addressing poverty in the D.C. area. In 2015, the District of Columbia was ranked the 6th highest state with the most people below poverty, and had the highest food stamp use percentage rate in the United States. D.C. Central Kitchen’s aims to develop and operate social ventures that break the cycle of hunger and poverty. Their operations have inspired the foundation for Campus Kitchen, a student organization with many chapters across the nation.

Also, more people are born into poverty than come out of it. A Wider Circle serves the greater D.C. area to eliminate poverty and its effects on individuals while focusing on love and human connection. A Wider Circle’s mission is to help both individuals and families out of poverty, as well as to give everyone the chance to succeed and live well.
