Break Description

Join us as we kick-off the end of the school year with a week of meaningful service and community engagement down in The Big Easy. New Orleans, a vivacious and culturally diverse city, is still experiencing the challenges of rebuilding what was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Back then, JMU made a commitment to aid in the rebuilding of houses and community; we continue this effort today by working alongside two different community partners, Saint Bernard’s Project and Lower Nine. These community partners aim to reconstruct homes within areas most deeply affected in order to bring home the original community members. During our time we will learn more about the city, the culture, the effects of the storm, and engage in meaningful service which may include lot clearing, construction, home renovation and other projects. Grab your work boots and join us this May!
