Break Description

We will be working with two different agencies, Family Promise and United Way of Florida. Family Promise is an organization which houses homeless and displaced families in a network of churches throughout the country, called the Interfaith Hospitality Network. United Way of Florida is an umbrella organization that works with various agencies to ensure strong and sustainable communities. Primary issues that United Way works with include education, income inequality, health, veterans needs, and more.

We will spend the majority of our time working with Family Promise. For the duration of the week, we will be acting as a “host family” to the families staying in the church. Our duties will include serving breakfast, making lunches, serving dinner, interacting with the families, and any other relevant jobs that arise throughout our break. The rest of the time we will go out in the community and work with United Way. Our break is unique because we will be housed in the church alongside families, making our service experience an around the clock job. Because of this, we will have endless opportunities to bond and become close with our “guests,” which will make it hard on all of us to come home!
