Break Description

Recently, the issue of immigration has been the forefront of national politics and mainstream media. Immigrants have sometimes been seen as second-class citizens, and it has been up to them to prove otherwise. Cesar Chavez saw the need to unite these immigrants in 1989. He founded La Union Del Pueblo Entero, an organization that focuses on community wellness for immigrants in low-income communities (colonias) within the Rio Grande Valley. LUPE, in partnership with the residents of colonias are working together to use the power of civic engagement to spawn social change. During our break, we will be learning about immigration and the rights of immigrants in the Latino community.  Join us as we work alongside Latino communities to bring awareness to the social justice issues affecting immigrants and their families.
