Focus on: Genocide and Refugee Advocacy

Description: "Co- Sponsored with the School of Communication Studies, this Alternative Spring Break trip will take us to Phoenix, Arizona to work with the Lost Boys of Sudan and Catholic Charities to advocate for genocide and refugee awareness. Since 1983, the Sudan people's liberation party and the sudanese government have been at war in Southern Sudan. Over 500,000 lives have been lost with at least 20,000 children displaced from their homes and separated from their families. The Arizona Lost Boys Center works to assist newly resettled males from Sudan. The center works to provide education, employment opportunities and help acclimate the Lost Boys to the culture around them.
When we get to Arizona we have a week of service planed. We will make welcome baskets to bring to the Lost Boys center. Using our skills as communication majors, we will identify with the Lost Boys and listen to their stories. We are invigorated to work with such a important social issue and we counting down the days to make in impact in the Phoenix community.  "
