JMU John GuoTitle:

A Newly Designed Cyber Security Course for 4VA

Principal Investigator:

Dr. John Guo

Summary:

This Course Redesign Project aims to introduce a new design of Computer Information Systems (CIS) security class to the 4VA program. Such design utilizes new tools and perspectives to provide students with a technical grounding in network attack concepts and technologies that are critical to defensive practices, including, but not limited to, penetration testing environment, online threats, data security, and system hardening. Using hands-on labs and real world exercises, the course examines popular hacking tools such as key logger and phishing attack, evaluates cyber security context, and analyses incident response solutions. Due to the realness and practicality of this course design, students are able to relate acquired knowledge to daily activities so that their in-class engagement is enhanced.
