JMU James WilsonTitle:

JMU-ESRI Geoportal Collaborative:  A Proposal to Develop A Research Collaborative

Principal Investigator:

Dr. James Wilson, Department of Integrated Science and Technology at JMU in collaboration with Dr. Ralph Grove, Department of Computer Science at JMU, Dr. Steve Whitmeyer, Department of Geology and Environmental Science at JMU and Marten Hogeweg and Christine White of the ESRI Geoportal Team.

The goal of this project is to continue conversations with ESRI, the largest geographic information system software company in the world, about collaborating on the future development of an open source software package, Geoportal, which was originally developed and is primarily maintained by ESRI. The outcome of this collaboration will position JMU and ESRI to be able to broaden collaboration with researchers at George Mason University and Virginia Tech, as well as potentially other private sector firms. This broader collaboration would be well positioned to seek federal funding from NSF programs.
