University of Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (UVSQ) is a leading multidisciplinary higher education and research institution. The quality of UVSQ’s undergraduate and graduate programs (master’s programs, doctorates, post-doctoral fellowships) is backed by the compelling research programs conducted in UVSQ research centers and laboratories.

Spread over 5 campuses with 20,000 students, UVSQ offers more than 200 disciplinary programs which allow it to welcome international students interested in studying in France for a semester, an academic year, or the full duration of a degree program.

Location Description

This former unofficial capital of France sits just 10 miles from Paris and is easily reachable by train. Renowned internationally for its beautiful Palace and gardens, Versailles is a majestic French city with deep royal roots. Between Paris and Versailles, UVSQ is located in one of the largest economic and private research areas in Europe. It therefore operates in an environment conducive to producing innovation and to the development of industrial activity. 

Academics

Majority of the courses at UVSQ are offered in French. Many foreign language majors at JMU majors have participated in this program and have recieved course credit.

Courses taught in English: American Studies, English, and a few in International Relations/Politics

Fields of study include:

  • Sciences: biology, chemistry, computer science, physics, mathematics, engineering sciences and 
  • Humanities: law, political science, economics, management, administration, sociology, history, geography, sustainable development , literature and civilization (French, Spanish and English)

Accommodations

UVSQ offers housing for exchange students. These options include private rentals, homestay accomodations, and also university residences. 

UVSQ has a quota of places for exchange students in the CROUS residences. The application procedures will be provided during your registration within the International Relations Department of the UVSQ.

Applicant Criteria

Applicants must have a 2.7 GPA and be in good standing with the university. 

A French Language certificate is not required but a B2 level is highly recommended except for courses taught in English. B2 level is often the equivalent of 232 at JMU.

Applicants must have completed their first year of JMU before going abroad. There are exceptions for Transfer Students.

Costs

In addition paying regular tuition to JMU, participants can also expect to pay the following estimated costs to the host institution:

Additional out-of-pocket expenses may include flight, visa fees, in-country transportation, and personal funds.

How to Apply

The application for admission has a number of parts. See the outline below and make certain you have completed all steps in the application process:

  • Online JMU Exchange General Application 
    Completing the General Application will allow you to select your top three universities for Exchange. Multiple Exchange Program applications do not need to be submitted.
  • Exchange University's application 
    Upon acceptance from JMU, the applicant will then complete the host university's application. The exchange program coordinator will work with applicant to provide access to the application.
