Summer 2011 We The People

Graduate Course Information

 

For those of you interested in earning graduate credits for your participation in your We The People Summer Institute, James Madison University offers two options; graduate credits in either History or Political Science.

 

To earn these credits, you will have to apply on-line (this web site will explain the procedure to you), attend the complete institute and take part in all components, submit an additional paper as designated by the faculty member of record and pay all applicable fees.

 

Fees

James Madison University presents the We The People Summer Institutes in partnership with the Center for Civic Education.  As part of that partnership, we are proud to extend in-state tuition rates to all institute participants.  The rates for this summers courses are $258/credit hour.  In addition, you are required to pay a $20 "Special Student" application fee.  Thus your total financial obligation for the course will be $794.

Registering On-Line

To register on-line, you will need to go to

  • http://www.applyweb.com/apply/jmucess/index.html
  • From there you will need to go to, "CREATE YOUR ACCOUNT"
  • After you have done that you will be able to select and log-on to the, "NON-DEGREE SEEKING STUDENT APPLICATION"
    • While in this section, if you live in Virginia, complete the Virginia residency form, otherwise do not worry.
  • You will be asked to provide credit card information to pay you $20 application fee.  You must provide this information to continue with registering.
  • Once you have completed this process, the Office of Outreach and Engagement will register you for the course and you will then be billed for the remaining $774.

 

Things to Remember

  • This is a college credit course, once you have registered, you must either complete the course and receive a grade or withdrawl.
    • Failure to complete the course requirements without withdrawing in the required time frame (you can withdrawl at any point prior to leaving campus by contacting Andrea Rexrode 540-568-2991 in the Registrar's Office) will result in a failing grade and you will still be liable for all fees.
  • You are encouraged to register for this course prior to your arrival on campus.  However, you may register for it on campus, during the Institute.  You will be required to register for it on-line.
  • This is a Summer session course, but because of when it takes place and the need for you to produce and additional paper, your grade for the course will be available during the Fall semester (once all of your work has been submitted).
