WRTC faculty member Dr. Ralph Cohen was honored for both his gift to the JMU Libraries and his receipt of the first James Madison University Provost's Distinguished Professorship.
Dr. Cohen's Gift Collection comprises more than 5,500 books representing diverse scholarly fields such as philosophy, aesthetics, art history, film studies, linguistics and literary theory.
The Provost's Distinguished Professorship recognizes outstanding individuals who bring distinction to the university through their own professional achievements in scholarship and academic leadership.
Dr. Cohen taught at UCLA and the University of Virginia, where he served as the William R. Kenen, Jr. Professor of English from 1968 until his retirement earlier this year. He also founded the journal New Literary History in 1969, and which edited until 2009.
