- Dan Melzer on Writing in the Disciplines
In the fall of 2005, Dr. Dan Melzer, the Reading and Writing Coordinator from Sacramento State University, delivered a presentation and a workshop on starting and maintaining a WAC program at JMU.
- Christine Hult on Writing Across the Curriculum
In the fall of 2006, Dr. Christine Hult, who teaches in the writing, honors, and English education programs at Utah State University, delivered a presentation and workshop on improving writing across the curriculum through the creation of solid writing assignments.

- Gardner Campbell on The Digital Imagination
On Oct. 4, 2007, Dr. Gardner Campbell, who teaches English at Mary Washington University and writes about education technologies in the classroom, served as the keynote speaker for the Center for Instructional Technologies' 4th Annual Teaching and Learning with Technologies Conference. His talk focused on information literacy and critical thinking as key prerequisites for the successful use of information technologies.
- Chic or Geek: The Role of Speculative FIction in Society
On March. 8, 2008, WRS faculty Heather Comfort, Michael Klein, and Michael Smith dicussed the role and function of speculative fiction within academia and society at large in a panel discussion at the 17th annual MADICON convention in Harrisonburg, VA.
- The Writers' Cafe
On March. 20, 2008, WRS faculty members read their poetry and prose at the Spring 2008 Writers' Cafe.
