Stephanie Mappen
(former Marketing and Outreach Intern)

My experience as a Marketing and Outreach intern was better than I could have imagined. My duties for the semester included redesigning the UWC website and managing various campaigns to market for the center throughout campus and the community. As a senior SMAD major, I was extremely nervous to graduate in May and begin "the real world." Working for the Writing Center gave me the first-hand experience that I needed. I was able to strengthen my portfolio, while also learning how to work closely and listen to my "client." Redesigning the website was both rewarding and challenging. It taught me how to balance user experience with aesthetic appeal when working on a project. I am so thankful for the growing opportunity, and I recommend this internship to students willing and ready to learn in a fun and fast-paced environment.

Faizah Butt
(former Marketing and Outreach Intern)

As one of the first Marketing and Outreach interns at the James Madison University Writing Center, I am honored to have worked closely with some of the most talented writers at our university. Using my public relations and marketing skills, I received the opportunity to author all content on the UWC's social media sites. Additionally, I partnered with on-campus organizations and institutions to promote visibility for the center and presented on behalf of the UWC at on campus events.

Previously, I had an understanding of the benefits of public relations and marketing, but through this internship I witnessed firsthand how strategic communication contributed to an organization's growth. The excitement that I experienced helped confirm my passion for this type of work. It also gave me the confidence to believe in my abilities for the future. I could not have asked for a more fulfilling experience.
