Jared Featherstone advises students and faculty about writing, and teaches courses in the School of Writing, Rhetoric & Technical Communication (WRTC). He holds an MFA in Creative Writing and a BA in Journalism from the University of Maryland. In addition to developing his own creative work, his interests include online learning, Writing Across the Curriculum, service learning, and the relationship between teaching and tutoring.

Holding a B.A. and an M.A. in English, Laura Schubert consults with students and faculty on all kinds of writing. She also has experience teaching English Language Learners. In addition to teaching for the School of Writing, Rhetoric & Technical Communication, she is currently conducting research on writing fellows programs, writing centers, and the intersections between teaching and tutoring.
Paige Normand, M.A. normanap@jmu.edu
Paige Normand tutors for both the Writing Center and the Communication Center and teaches in the School of Media Art and Design. She received her M.A. in English Literature from the University of Texas at Austin where she was the Outreach Coordinator for the UT Undergraduate Writing Center and taught for the Division of Rhetoric and Writing. Her interests can mostly be gleaned by squinting at the books on the shelf behind her.

Reba is a Faculty Fellow in the Center this year. She is librarian for Justice Studies, Political Science, and the School of Leadership Studies and spends much of her time assisting students from those departments to find and use library resources for their research. Her current research focus is on examining the research strategies and rhetorical moves political science students use in constructing literature reviews, and more broadly, the relationship between the writing process and the research process in student writing.

Kevin is a Faculty Fellow from WRTC who also teaches courses in Written Argumentation and Critical Reading & Writing. His research interests include rhetoric, first-year writing, and 19th- and 20th-century British and American literature.

Megan Brenneman graduated from Lynchburg College in 2011 with a double major in Communication Studies and Vocal Performance and a minor in Spanish. Now a second-year grad student, Megan pursues an MA in Writing and Rhetoric with hopes to teach writing and communication studies at the college level. In addition to writing, Megan enjoys singing, traveling, and running. This is her first year at the Writing Center.

Emiline Buhler recently graduated from University of Wisconsin Stevens Point with a B.S. in Biology with Chemistry and Writing Minors. She is attending JMU for her Master's degree in Scientific Writing. She is studying how writing centers effectively cater to students of all disciplines. Someday, she hopes to apply similar techniques to teach researchers how to write grant proposals and manuscripts. In her spare time, Emiline likes to waterski, hike, and play guitar.

Brooke Elliott graduated from Bridgewater College in 2011 with an English major and a French minor. She is currently pursuing an English literature master's at JMU and plans to focus on the patterns of contemporary American poetry, with aspirations to become an English professor. She is in the process of publishing a book of original poems titled "First Person: A Journey in Self-Discovery Through Poetry." In her spare time, she enjoys reading, playing ukulele and destroying her competitors at Wii bowling.

Michael Farnsworth is a graduate student in the Writing, Research, and Technical Communications department, pursuing interests in medical communication. He has an M.A. in philosophy and a B.S. in physics. He grades ethics courses in the ISAT department and teaches an online philosophy course for Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ. In his spare time, he is almost always rock climbing.

Gwen earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from Asbury College in 2003. Since then, she has been writing and teaching for all kinds of reasons: public relations, newsletters, teaching English in Honduras, and teaching environmental education. She is now studying Technical Communications in JMU's WRTC department. Gwen likes to play outside and talk about nature (ask her about bats), and might walk into a light pole one day because her eyes are on the skies, watching the birds on JMU's campus.

Prabin Lama is pursuing a Master of Arts in Writing, Rhetoric & Technical Communication at James Madison University. His interests include managerial communication, composition and writing center pedagogy, writing across the curriculum, and writing program assessment. He plans to enroll into a doctoral program in writing studies and pursue a career in academia.

She lives by the quote, "you musn't be afraid to dream a little bigger darling," and aspires to live in New York City working as a screenwriter for Saturday Night Live and major motion pictures. In her spare time, she enjoys taking photographs, playing with cats, watching movies, and spending time with friends and family.

Haley Cline is a junior pursuing a major in Writing, Rhetoric & Technical Communication and a minor in Nonprofit Studies. She loves to write fiction and is a member of Students Helping Honduras, an organization that focuses on empowering the youth of Honduras through the building of schools in rural villages. After she graduates, Haley hopes to pursue a career with a nonprofit organization that works with orphaned and abandoned children.

She is also the Executive Editor of Curio, the Shenandoah Valley magazine. In addition to her academic work, her interests are in creative nonfiction and publication management. After graduation, Camille hopes to work in book publishing in New York.

Kellie Harlow is a junior Modern Foreign Languages major with a Spanish concentration and double minor in Business Spanish and Latin American & Caribbean Studies. She is working on becoming trilingual by taking introductory Italian courses in addition to her Spanish classes. In her spare time, she enjoys learning about other cultures, volunteering, makeup, Tumblr, and playing violin & guitar. In the future, Kellie hopes to work for an NGO that provides underprivileged people in Latin America with opportunities for upward social mobility. Demetrius Lancaster is the Administrative and Operations Specialist for the University Writing Center, English Language Learner Services, and the Communication Center. He is a double duke as he's received both his Bachelor of Science in Public Policy Administration and Master of Public Administration degrees from JMU in 2010 and 2012, respectively. In his spare time he enjoys playing piano and guitar.
