Jared Featherstone advises students and faculty about writing, and teaches courses in the School of Writing, Rhetoric & Technical Communication (WRTC). He holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing and a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Maryland. In addition to developing his own creative work, his interests include online learning, Writing Across the Curriculum, service learning, and the relationship between teaching and tutoring.

Holding a B.A. and an M.A. in English, Laura Schubert consults with students and faculty on all kinds of writing. She also has experience teaching English Language Learners. In addition to teaching for the School of Writing, Rhetoric & Technical Communication, she is currently conducting research on writing fellows programs, writing centers, and the intersections between teaching and tutoring.

Stephen Briggs came to JMU as a freshman straight out of high school, though he earned his B.A. in Humanities from the University of Washington in Seattle. After working in the film industry and as a newspaper columnist, he earned an M.F.A. in Non-Fiction Creative Writing from the University of Southern Maine. He teaches in the School of Writing, Rhetoric & Technical Communication.

Kevin Jefferson is a Faculty Fellow from WRTC, with a background in 19th- and 20th-century British and American literature, and a history of long road trips. His teaching and research interests include first-year composition; rhetorics of place, the environment, and the West; and publishing student writing. He's working this year with JMU students and faculty to re-launch and publish JMURJ, the James Madison Undergraduate Research Journal.

Emiline Buhler graduated from University of Wisconsin Stevens Point with a B.S. in Biology and Chemistry and Writing minors and is here at JMU for a master's in Scientific Writing. She is studying how writing centers cater effectively to students in all disciplines and hopes someday to use these tactics in teaching researchers to write grant proposals and manuscripts. In her spare time, Emiline likes to waterski, hike, and play guitar.

Brian Caperton recently graduated from JMU with a B.S. in psychology and is pursuing a master's in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. He is an avid musician and traveler, and has been involved in a number of service-learning opportunities throughout his academic career. In the future, Brian hopes to practice crisis intervention in developing communities around the world.

Justin Grandinetti is a first year graduate student in JMU's WRTC program, back on familiar ground after earning his B.A. from JMU in Spring 2013. In the future, he hopes to teach at the university level. Justin had to take time away from school in order to find his passion as a student, and he believes this real-world insight can bring a unique and personal perspective to university studies.

Eric LaFreniere likes comic books and role-playing games, and is interested in the evolution / development of speech, writing, and consciousness. He has a master's degree in Writing, Rhetoric, and Technical Communication, has presented at numerous academic conferences, and works at the University Writing Center and teaches a GWRTC 103 section.

Daniel Zimmerman earned his B.A. in English with a secondary education licensure at Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee. While at Bryan, he played baseball, studied abroad in England, and worked in the Writing Center. After teaching in the public school system for three years, he came to JMU with his wife Kara to pursue an M.A. in English. His favorite books are from the Renaissance, and his passion is unearthing their theological, philosophical, and historical meanings. He hopes to earn a Ph.D. and to become a literature professor. His hobbies include reading good books, brewing excellent coffee, forming deep friendships, watching the Cincinnati Reds, playing guitar, and discussing the big ideas of life.

Rudy Barrett is a junior WRTC major and Biology minor. He is passionate about many geeky things (graphic novels, Japanese language and culture, video games, horror fiction, art and animation, and tabletop gaming) and a handful of less geeky things (hitting the gym, learning to cook, blaring music, and playing racquetball). His dream is to teach writing at the college level and to make a name for himself with his creative and academic writing.

Maya Chandler is a junior majoring in WRTC and Interior Architecture. She loves all things creative, from writing, to sewing, to jewelry-making, and everything in between. She likes road trips, playing and listening to music, and making lists of all the books she will read when she has free time. Maya hopes to travel the globe, and in particular loves cities. She dreams of being an interior designer, a successful art and fashion editor, or a novelist.

Haley Cline is a senior pursuing a major in Writing, Rhetoric & Technical Communication and a minor in Nonprofit Studies. She loves to write fiction and is a member of Students Helping Honduras, an organization that focuses on empowering the youth of Honduras by building schools in rural villages. After she graduates, Haley hopes to develop a career with a nonprofit organization that works with orphaned and abandoned children.

Taylor Hudson is senior pursuing a double major in Media Arts and Design (with a concentration in Journalism) and WRTC. Taylor hopes to travel abroad through missionary work and travel writing, and, ultimately, to publish a book. She is a Sigma Alpha Omega sister and works as a writer for the Office of Technology and Design. Taylor loves photography, hiking, painting, and playing music--including the guitar, ukelele, or singing.
