University Legal Services
University Legal Services provides legal advice and representation to James Madison University. In that capacity, the University Counsel and Associate University Counsel advise the Board of Visitors, the President, executive officers, administrators, faculty and staff, in their official capacities, on various legal issues impacting the University.
University Legal Services is responsible for providing a full range of legal services to the University. Some areas in which we provide legal advice and representation are business matters, transactions and contract review, labor and employment, litigation, property acquisitions, student and faculty issues, among others.
University Legal Services provides legal services related to University business only. You may consult with us regarding legal matters related to issues arising from your official duties at the University.
The University is an educational institution and agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia, organized as a public corporate body pursuant to statute. Lawyers in this office are appointed by the Attorney General of Virginia and are engaged as employees for the sole and exclusive representation of James Madison University.
