What is the
purpose of the MYMOM program?
Students who
participate in Make Your Mark on Madison will gain insight into
their own personal values, leadership styles, facilitation and
decision-making through a semester long leadership program (Fall Semester
2007). MYMOM is designed to be a springboard into authentic involvement
at JMU.
Who can be
involved in the Program?
Any freshman or
sophomore student who is looking to enhance their JMU experience through
extracurricular involvement can apply to be part of the program.
How do I
apply?
Applications can be
accessed and downloaded by clicking the “Apply to be a Participant“
tab above. The application must be printed out and turned in to the SOS
Office (Taylor 205) no later than
5:00 pm on Friday,
September the 7th.
When would
I hear if I was accepted?
The applicant pool
will be narrowed down and select applicants will be asked to participate
in fun group interviews from September 10th-13th. A
final group of about 85 freshmen and sophomores will be chosen and
notified no later than Wednesday, September 19th to participate in the
program. If you’re planning to apply to the MYMOM program, save the date
Saturday, September 22nd, as we want full attendance to our
MYMOM kickoff retreat!
Will I get to meet
many new people?
The MYMOM program will
not only introduce you to many freshman and sophomore peers equally eager
to make their mark on James Madison University, but also to fourteen of
the most involved, talented and vibrant student leaders as well as some of
the most dynamic faculty and staff JMU has to offer.
What are
some other fun things that I would have to look forward to in the MYMOM
Program?
· Have the
opportunity to interact with faculty and staff here at JMU through
weekly sessions on some of the most important issues facing student
leaders and our University
· Form friendships with other students, working together and
learning together in councils of 12, each led by two upperclassmen
Leadership Counselors who have made the most of their involvement here
at JMU.
· Attend a motivating and interactive retreat to kick off the
program, meet within their councils, begin to form friendships, and get
an introduction to the amazing time that they are going to have this
semester.
· Participate in
a Day of Community Service where students will experience first hand the
link between leadership and service, as well as explore opportunities to
volunteer in the Harrisonburg community.
