T/TAC Mission

The Virginia Department of Education Training and Technical Assistance Center at James Madison University is part of a statewide network of centers designed to improve educational opportunities and contribute to the success of children and youth with disabilities (ages birth - 22). T/TACs work to increase the capacity of school personnel, service providers, and families to meet the needs of children and youth with disabilities by providing for high quality personnel development that fosters students with disabilities' access to the general curriculum, achievement in the least restrictive environment, and knowledge and skills to transition to adult settings.

T/TACs provide a variety of request-based support services and assistance to public school and early intervention personnel. Services include a lending library, quarterly newsletter, Web site & T/TAC Online, workshops & training, information resources, referrals to other agencies, and small group and individual consultations.

The T/TACs:

Assist personnel to prepare young children for accessing, and achieving in, the general curriculum;
Assist personnel to prepare school-age students with disabilities for graduating with a diploma or completing an appropriate program that prepares them for post-secondary education and/or employment; and
Assist schools in meeting Virginia accreditation standards, assist local educational agencies in making adequate yearly progress of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), and assist the state in its work toward the goals under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA 2004).
