History of ITSC

The ITSC was established in 1996. In the past, Technical Writing had been a concentration area offered in the English department. Dr. Peter Hager led an initiative to establish a separate department for technical communication that would allow students to specialize in this growing field. The current director, Dr. Alice Philbin, and the faculty members offer some 25 specific courses in both technical and scientific communication.

The program continues to grow and offers both academic and professional opportunities such as Student Publications Group and the Student Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication.
