Virginia Breeze Intercity Bus Service

The "Virginia Breeze" provides daily coach bus service from JMU to the Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Amtrak's Union Station in Washington, D.C. Currently, the northbound "Virginia Breeze" bus departs from JMU at Godwin Hall at 11:15 a.m., arriving at Dulles Airport at 1:30 p.m. and Union Station at 2:30 p.m. In addition to accessing Amtrack train travel at Union Station, interline bus tickets with Megabus can be purchased online, and Megabus connections can be made at Union Station. This service provides connecting services to many major U.S. cities, including Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, and Boston.

The southbound "Virginia Breeze" departs from Amtrak's Union Station at 9:20 a.m. and Dulles Airport at 10:35 a.m., arriving at JMU at 12:40 p.m. The southbound bus then continues on to Staunton, Lexington, Blacksburg, and Christiansburg.

Tickets may be purchased online with prices ranging from $15 to/from Dulles and $35 to/from Union Station.

Campus Buses

The Harrisonburg Department of Public Transportation (HDPT) and JMU work together to ensure students have safe and reliable method of transportation for getting to/from campus, around campus, and to the City of Harrisonburg. All JMU students and employees ride for free on HDPT transit buses.  When boarding buses on campus or at the off-campus apartments it is not necessary to display your JACard; however, when boarding buses in the City the driver may request that you present your JACard in lieu of paying a fare. All buses are wheelchair accessible and equipped with bicycle racks that can hold up to two bikes at a time. 

"myStop" is now the FREE official app for JMU and campus bus routes. It is powered by HDPT's real-time bus arrival system and allows users to know where their bus is instantly, plan their trips, and set bus arrival alerts. Download the app at the Apple Store or on Google Play now. 

If you are new to the JMU transit system, you can determine your best routes  and schedules by navigating to the JMU "Bus Finder" site. Bus Finder includes drop down lists of all the bus stops on campus and in the City so you can enter your origin, destination, and date/time you wish to travel. Bus Finder will show you the best routes and schedules for your planned trip. 

Paratransit Services

The City of Harrisonburg operates specialized public transportation for persons with disabilities. Harrisonburg Department of Public Transit offers free wheelchair accessible vehicle services within city-limits. Eligibly for paratransit services is strictly limited to persons with disabilities and reservations should be made 24 hours in advance. Paratransit services can be requested by calling 540-432-0492.

Blue Ridge Community College Shuttle

Students ride free on the BRCC Shuttle! BRITE's BRCC Shuttle operates the North BRCC Shuttle between the Godwin Transit Center on campus and Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC) where connections can be made to the South BRCC Shuttle that runs to Staunton and the Amtrak station.
