Several companies operate chartered motor coaches that serve the JMU campus, providing routes that connect to Washington D.C., Virginia, Maryland, New York, and Pennsylvania on weekends and during academic breaks. These buses are equipped for long haul use and are typically equipped with restrooms, Wifi, improved seating and luggage storage space. Each service provider is operated independently from JMU. Bus Amtrak Airport Service

The "Virginia Breeze" provides daily coach bus service from JMU to the Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Amtrak's Union Station in Washington, D.C. Currently, the northbound "Virginia Breeze" bus departs from JMU at Godwin Hall at 11:15 a.m., arriving at Dulles Airport at 1:30 p.m. and Union Station at 2:30 p.m. In addition to accessing Amtrak train travel at Union Station, interline bus tickets with Megabus can be purchased online, and Megabus connections can be made at Union Station. This service provides connecting services to many major U.S. cities, including Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, and Boston.

The southbound "Virginia Breeze" departs from Amtrak's Union Station at 9:20 a.m. and Dulles Airport at 10:35 a.m., arriving at JMU at 12:40 p.m. The southbound bus then continues on to Staunton, Lexington, Blacksburg, and Christiansburg.

Tickets may be purchased online with prices ranging from $15 to/from Dulles and $35 to/from Union Station.

The "Virginia Breeze" 56-seat passenger buses include free Wi-Fi, power outlets, a restroom, and plenty of baggage and seating room. All buses are ADA accessible. Visit for more information on routes, tickets, amenities, luggage restrictions and parking.

Home Ride of Virginia

Home Ride of Virginia provides weekend motor coach bus service on two routes between JMU and other cities in Virginia. One route operates to Charlottesville, Richmond and Hampton Roads; the other route operates to Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax, Virginia. Typically these buses leave JMU on Friday afternoons at 3:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and return to JMU on Sunday evenings.  You can check schedules and purchase tickets by visiting the JMU Bookstore, by viewing, or by calling the Home Ride office at (800) 553-6644.


CollegeTransit has been transporting JMU students home for the holidays for over 25 years. Departing directly from the JMU campus for Thanksgiving, Winter and Spring Breaks – destinations include Allentown (PA), Ridgefield (NJ), Huntington (NY) and the BWI Amtrak station. CollegeTransit buses are outfitted with restrooms, TVs and DVD players. Buses usually leave campus the Friday of break at 2pm. Visit for specific schedule information and reservations. BreakShuttle also provides students with coach bus service during academic breaks serving major metropolitan areas, including Washington DC, Philadelphia and New York City. Break Shuttle uses motor coaches equipped with WiFi, TV and bathrooms. Tickets can be purchased at
