Advising Notes:
1. There are no VCCS or RBC equivalents for major courses. 2. Students generally start the WRTC major in the junior year; with careful preparation at the Community College and with a WRTC advisor once admitted to JMU, the major can be completed in two years (depending on the concentration chosen). 3. Students interested in the major should register for WRTC 200, the first of the three core courses, in their first semester at JMU. 4. Students can further prepare themselves for the WRTC major by taking writing courses beyond first-year composition and computer literacy courses; courses in rhetoric as well as in visual layout and web programming are particularly relevant. Good writing skills are also key to being successful in the major. 5. Students interested in the B.A. are strongly encouraged to begin their foreign language at the community college. 6. Students concentrating in TSC are strongly urged to join the Society for Technical Communication (STC).
