eDevelopment FAQ's

Why do I get an error message when I click on the back button?
E-Development was created so that only the buttons on each screen can be used to navigate through the system.

Is there a way to add an organization, membership, license, award, publication, etc. that is not already listed in the drop-down menu as an option?
Contact Jennifer Testa in the Training and Development Department (testajc, x85366) for instructions.

I made a mistake with the data I entered. What do I need to do?
You can update and/or delete the record by clicking on the record itself.

What is the earliest start date I may use when entering my information?
It is your choice. Although the system is new, it will allow you to enter past activities.

How will the data I enter be used?
You will use the information to record professional development activities not currently captured on your J-ESS Training Summary.

Is this an official record of my professional development activities?
No. This is an invalidated record. This record is an employee's equivalent to a student's unofficial transcript. In order to validate your activities, documentation is required. Contact the Training and Development Department for information on validating your eDevelopment transactions.

What information can be entered?
Refer to the definitions on the main self-service page. You can return to the main page during any stage of the process; however, you will lose any data that has not been saved.

Are we required to enter our information into eDevelopment?
No. Although one of the performance indicators under professional development is that all professional development will be recorded, eDevelopment is not required at this time.

Does this system require a form before access can be given?
No. eDevelopment is a self-service component of the J-ESS system so all employees automatically have access.

However, there are systems on campus that do require a form for access. Currently these include: the Central Systems, Web Manager and Listservs. Each system requires completion of a form for access.

JMU Central Systems (Human Resources, Finance, Student, EMPAC, e-VA, Etc):

  • Web Manager: http://www.jmu.edu/computing/web/department.shtml
  • Listserv Request Form: http://accounts.jmu.edu

Mission Statement: The Training and Development Department serves administrative and professional faculty, classified staff and wage employees with performance improvement opportunities that contribute to the achievement of the university's mission.
