Once you have registered for your audition, please submit your supplemental materials via Slideroom. Your Slideroom application should be submitted at least five days prior to your on-campus audition.

Dance Audition Information

An audition is required only if you intend to be a Dance Major at JMU.

Dance minors do not audition.

A JMU Admission Application should be submitted before auditioning.  Each candidate should select DANCE as their major area of interest.  In addition, you will need to register for an audition and submit a Slideroom application. By filling out the online form, you will secure your spot for an audition on a specific date.  If you need to switch your audition date, you can do so online or we can assist at 540-568-7138.  You will be sent a confirmation email, and you will receive notification of your specific audition time prior to your audition.

You will also need to submit supplemental materials and complete an application via Slideroom.  These are the materials that will be collected on the Slideroom website:

  1.   At least two letters of recommendation addressing your involvement and commitment to dance.
  2.   A one page typed personal statement about dance.
  3.   A resume and a current photograph (black and white or color).
  4.   An unofficial High School transcript.

You should submit your Slideroom application at least five days prior to your audition.

Notification of Acceptance

Prospective students who have auditioned will be notified of their acceptance to the Dance Major when they are notified of their acceptance to JMU via MyMadison. Dance Majors will be encouraged to demonstrate their commitment to this intense course of study by making it their first-major if they plan to double major.

Students who do not receive acceptance to the Dance Major but who do receive admission to JMU can re-audition for the Dance Major during their first year during the scheduled prospective student auditions. These students can also contact the Dance Program Coordinator at the beginning of their fall freshman semester to discuss the possibility of adding dance courses to their schedule depending upon availability of classes.
