Jennifer Campfield

Jennifer joined the Talent Development Department in February of 2013 as the Director after working for over seven years in JMU’s Office of Human Resources. Jennifer double majored in Psychology and English as an undergraduate at JMU. She holds a Master of Social Work degree from VCU and Master of Science in Education in Adult Education and Human Resource Development from JMU. Her responsibilities include leading the Talent Development team; analyzing professional development needs; developing, delivering and evaluating professional development workshops; and ensuring that the activities of the Talent Development department support the university mission. She enjoys engaging JMU employees in professional development activities that foster personal and professional growth, enhance work/life balance and increase workplace productivity. Jennifer is MBTI and SDI certified.

Professional Development Specialist

Gail Napora

Gail joined the JMU Talent Development Department in September 2016 and serves as the Professional Development Specialist. Her duties include analyzing professional development needs, developing workshop content, delivering and evaluating professional development workshops, working with Volunteer Facilitators, and overseeing technology for learning. Gail has extensive experience in developing meaningful content for adult learners including presenting for JMU’s Lifelong Learning Institute, in the community, and at local businesses. She earned a B.A. in English Writing and an M.S. in Human Resources Management, which she supplemented with business systems planning courses at IBM. The interdisciplinary nature of her education and work experiences allows her to actively “grow the talents of JMU employees” at every encounter. Gail is MBTI certified.

Training Coordinator

Suzanne Vance

Suzanne is Training Coordinator for the JMU Talent Development Department. After a short-term assignment in the Office of the President in fall of 1995, she worked in various capacities in the College of Business, including the Center for Entrepreneurship and the National Center for Professional Development. She came onboard with the JMU Talent Development Department in 2004. Her responsibilities include connecting workshops with content experts, and managing The Administrative Assistant Certificate Programs. She is a Covey-certified trainer.  A passionate fundraiser, Suzanne is the founding chair for HeartChase Harrisonburg, volunteers on a family Relay for Life team, and is on the K9s for Warriors planning team.  In addition, she serves on the Sentara RMH Patient and Family Advisory Council.  

Professional Development Assistant

Cyndi McDaniel

Cyndi joined the Talent Development Department in March of 2017 as the Professional Development Assistant and is responsible for processing training funds requests, managing the departmental web site, creating and distributing workshop marketing materials, and maintaining the departmental budget. She also supervises the Talent Development Intern by providing graphic design and marketing guidance while striving to create an enriching work experience. Cyndi holds a B.A. in Music from Virginia Tech with a concentration in Performance and continues to play flute with various groups within the local community. She comes to JMU with human resources, graphic design, and management experience and is currently a member of the JMU Diversity Conference Committee. 

Talent Development Assistant

Douglas Piker

Doug joined the Talent Development Department in May 2017 as the Talent Development Assistant and is responsible for assuring that the guests in our workshops are greeted and comfortable while visiting with us.  He also provides administrative assistance to our department by answering phones, providing front desk coverage, maintaining the resource collection, preparing training rooms for workshops, and supervising the student assistants. Doug holds a B.A in History from the College of William and Mary and a J.D. from the Nashville School of Law. He lives in Harrisonburg with his wife, Erin Piker AuD PhD, and their daughter, Winter.

This position is vacant during the summer. The Talent Development Graduate Assistant has been selected for the 2018-2019 academic year.

Talent Development Intern

Callie Reed
Contact Info

Callie joined the Talent Development Department in May 2018 as a Talent Development Intern. She is a junior pursing a bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a minor in Human Resource Development. At Talent Development, Callie assists with the analysis, design, development, testing, and evaluation of new workshop content. When not working or studying, she enjoys hiking and playing with her dog. 

TD Student Assistant

Kristin Shifflett
Contact Info

Kristin serves as the Talent Development Student Assistant. She holds an Associate of General Studies degree from Piedmont Virginia Community College in Charlottesville Virginia and as a freshman is attending JMU to pursue her bachelor’s degree in Architectural Design.  At Talent Development, Kristin is responsible for completing administrative tasks, covering the front desk, answering phone calls as needed, preparing training rooms for workshops, and carrying out other various duties within the department as needed. When she is not working, studying or getting involved on campus, she enjoys spending her time creating artwork in the form of painting and drawing.
