Overview of Program: Offered to students who demonstrate financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The selection of students for all FWS positions is a competitive process and job placement is not guaranteed. Part-time, on-campus employment opportunities to students regardless of financial need. Students do not need to fill out the FAFSA to apply for IE positions. Program assists students to find part-time jobs off campus regardless of their financial need. Students do not to need to fill out the FAFSA to apply for off-campus positions.
Financial Aid Requirements: Students are awarded FWS as part of their Financial Aid package. Students must fill out the FAFSA annually and have financial need as determined by the Department of Education. Financial Aid eligibility does not apply. No FAFSA is required to work an IE position. Eligibility: Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate). Must be a JMU student and meet the requirements set by the off-campus employer.
Wage/Number of Hours: The average rate of pay is $8.00 per hour, but varies according to the position. The federal minimum wage is $7.25/hr. Students are paid bimonthly in the form of a paycheck- their earnings are not applied against the University bill.

Students work 10 hours a week on average and cannot exceed 20 hours.
