| Job Description | Adventure Counselors: Our Adventure Program has its own village, brand new in 2005. Being an Adventure counselor is a busy, exciting, and demanding job. Counselors live with the Adventure campers and lead/facilitate adventure trips in rock climbing, tubing, caving, mountain biking, high ropes courses, climbing wall, hiking and canoeing. Counselors also accompany their groups whitewater rafting, hang gliding, and SCUBA diving. Staff members in adventure must have outdoor experience, and possess or be able to obtain Wilderness First Aid certification and Lifeguard certification. All Adventure counselors must be prepared to be trained in all Adventure areas. Campers and staff in the Adventure Program assist with preparing and serving meals, cleaning up, and other chores around Adventure Village daily. A typical day in our adventure program? There is no typical day in Adventure! Some days may be composed of a day trip, eating dinner in camp, and a laid back evening activity. Other days adventure campers and staff members are on overnight trips. Qualities that we look for in our adventure staff include: experience in and love for the outdoors, flexibility, ability to multi-task, responsibility, physical fitness, open mindedness, safety consciousness, and hard work ethic. Counselor Staff: Staff members must have completed one year of university or equivalent, and must be at least 18 years old. Counselors first and foremost live in a cabin with 8-12 campers with whom they eat and sleep. Counselors are responsible for guiding campers through their camp experience – peer mediation, homesickness, relationships, struggles, giggles, and fun. Counselors write post cards home to campers’ parents, discipline campers, and serve as role models. Counselors laugh, play, and act silly with campers. Counselors also guide and assist campers in clean up of the cabin and village. Counselors also teach in a specific activity area during activity periods. Staff members are hired for their experience, enjoyment of, and teaching abilities in different areas such as: Arts - Performing Arts: teaching guitar lessons and music, dance and drama classes. Visual Arts: many different mediums of visual art as well as camp crafts, photography/darkroom, and newspaper. Aquatics - Must be a certified lifeguard. Guards teach swim lessons in our pool and canoeing lessons in our lake, as well as lifeguard for Free Swim in the afternoons and Pool Parties some evenings. Horseback - Western Horseback lessons and trail rides for beginner riders. Care of horses as well as stable upkeep. Outdoors- Facilitating half day trips in the following Explorer activities: tubing, caving, mountain biking, high ropes, rock climbing, hiking, and more; teaching campers about the outdoors and ecology through hands-on nature experiements and hikes; or teaching pioneering/orienteering activities. Sports - Teaching basketball, archery, soccer, lacrosse, tennis, games, frisbee golf, softball and more. |
