If you’re tired of the same-old dinner and a movie routine,
try something different this Valentine’s. Whether you’re in a relationship or
flying solo, we at UREC have a list of fun things to keep you busy.
1) Salsa Lessons:
If you’re feeling saucy or just want to break out some moves at the club, sign
up for UREC’s salsa lessons. No experience is necessary, so there’s no need to
be intimidated if you think you have two left feet.
Details: For four lessons, registration is only $30 for a pair or
$20 per person. Lessons are every Thursday in February (including Valentine’s
Day) from 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. For more details, click here.
2) Love Your Body: Single
or taken, it’s important to love yourself and be comfortable in your own skin.
This interactive discussion will help you fight the media messages. As Holly
Wade, UREC’s Coordinator of Group Fitness and Wellness, says, “Any good
relationship starts with the relationship with yourself and your body.”
Details: Love Your Body is on Valentine’s Day, from 4 p.m. to 5
p.m. in UREC’s instructional room. Register for free online the day before. For
more details, click
here.
3) Release Frustration: Valentine’s Day can bring up some painful memories, so rather
than watching Ryan Gosling movies all day with a box of tissues, take out your
aggression on a punching bag. UREC has a special boxing group fitness class on
Valentine’s that’s open to anyone who wants a serious workout.
Details: Take UREC’s Boxing Fitness class on Valentine’s Day from 3
p.m. to 4 p.m. Register for free online starting 24 hours before class. For
more details, click
here.
4) Massage: Treat
yourself to a massage or show someone how much you care with a gift
certificate. UREC has licensed massage therapists who specialize in deep tissue
and Swedish massages, as well as myofascial release.
Details: Schedule an appointment or buy a gift certificate at the
UREC welcome center using FLEX to pay. Prices range from $35 to $75, depending
on how long the massage is. For more information, click here.
5) Chocolate: Who
doesn’t love chocolate? The nutrition experts at UREC will teach you how to
enjoy your favorite dessert without guilt. They’ll give you the pros and cons
of downing that box of chocolates and show you the healthiest ways to indulge.
Details: This program is on Tuesday, Feb. 12 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.,
in UREC’s instructional room. Register for free online at least 24 hours before
the program starts. Click
here for more information.
6) Conquer Your Fears Together: Whether you're an adrenaline junkie or still haven't gotten over your childhood fear of heights, climbing UREC's 33-foot rock wall will be a memorable experience. It's free and an exciting way to bond with your significant other or suitemates. As a bonus, you can cross it off the list of things to do before you graduate.
Details: UREC staff will teach you about the safety systems, equipment and techniques, so don't worry if you're a newcomer. Just show up during open climbing hours. On Valentine's Day, come between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. For more hours and information, click here.
Valentine’s Day may be overhyped, but it doesn’t have to be
a drag — UREC truly has something for everyone who wants to celebrate.
