Dean Mary Gowan Letter for Spring Enews
Dear Alumni and Friends,
Many great things are happening in the College of Business and at JMU. I want to call your attention to two new and important activities.
- SAVE THE DATE! On September 12, 2014, JMU will host its inaugural gathering of alumni who are entrepreneurs, inventors, creators, innovators, and venture capitalists. Come for the afternoon and network with other participants, students, and faculty and then join us for a reception and dinner, or just come for the dinner and learn about what alumni, students, and faculty are doing in the entrepreneurship and collaboration areas. Spend the night and enjoy a home football game the next day. Watch your email for more details, but feel free to send me an email (firstname.lastname@example.org) and let me know you would like more information.
- Dean’s Club is now open for business. Be sure and check out the article in this newsletter that describes a new opportunity for you to help support the activities of the CoB. We are very excited to have this new level of recognition for our donors.
On the “other” news front, Bloomberg Businessweek just released the 2014 rankings of undergraduate business programs. I am pleased to announce that the CoB clearly remains a top 40 undergraduate program overall and a top 20 public program. We were ranked #40 overall and #17 among public programs.
Here on campus we are busy finishing our strategic plan, working with a consultant to improve our brand and visual image, and having preliminary discussions with an architect about new space. We will be sharing more details about these initiatives in the coming months.
Thank you for your support of the CoB at JMU. I look forward to seeing you back on campus in the near future.
Mary A. Gowan, Dean and
Kenneth R. Bartee Endowed Professor
