Classes Projects Focus on a Healthy Campus Environment

Students from two interdisciplinary classes spent Fall semester furthering environmental stewardship at JMU. One class developed public education campaigns to promote environmentally responsible actions and another developed concepts for sustainable campus landscape elements.

Combining students and faculty from three areas, the "Environmental Rhetoric: Re-thinking, Re-envisioning & Re-designing Environment(s)" class, guided student teams through the process of creating campus-wide environmental stewardship communication campaigns. Their campaigns include target audiences, tactics, brands, and slogans to address important focal points such as waste and energy consumption.  Below, one team presents their “JMU Chooses Stewardship” campaign.

The landscape concepts, developed by seven teams of students in "Environmental Design" tackle balancing a healthy environment with conventional concepts of esthetically pleasing landscapes. Below is the Alluvial Garden designed for the space between Commuter Lot C4 and Tennis Courts.
