As stated in the Environmental Stewardship Action Plan, JMU will:
Develop a plan to reduce landfill waste
Develop a plan to expand composting by dining services staff
Develop green procurement guidelines, training, and implementation strategies
Examples of our progress:

A university-wide recycling program was implemented, resulting in sending less than 35% of JMU's waste to landfill.

A composting program was introduced. About 8% of JMU's waste is composted, which has contributed to JMU's recycling rate increasing from 33% in 2008 to 43% currently.
