Acquire new strategies and tools to enhance classroom instruction

We offer a variety of professional development opportunities designed to benefit beginning and experienced educators. Our goal is to help support your efforts to interest and encourage K-12 students to engage in STEM based courses with the hope that they continue to choose coursework that would allow them to pursue STEM studies in college. 

JMU Annual STEM Educator's Workshop 
The STEM Educator's Workshop provides K-12 educators with hands on activities and resources that they can bring back to the classroom. 

JMU Content Teaching Academy
The Annual Content Teaching Academy is held during the summer on the campus of James Madison University. The programs (Academies) offer high-quality professional development that include in-depth studies in a range of content areas. In addition, each Academy is designed to engage participants in critical dialogues of practice with instructional sessions conducted by scholars and master teachers who understand the challenges associated with today's classroom.

JMU Teaching and Learning with Technology Conference
The Teaching and Learning with Technology Conference at James Madison University is an opportunity to bring together educators using technology to share best practices and to make using technology a positive educational experience.

JMU Outreach and Engagement
JMU Outreach and Engagement offers opportunities to earn certificates in Educational Leadership, Educational Technologies, among others. They also offer professional development for educators.

ASM Materials Camp (for high school STEM teachers)
A week-long, hands-on lab experience shows educators how to use applied engineering techniques in their classroom. ASM Teachers Camp is an idea-generating workshop introducing teachers to methods that make math and core science principles more enticing and relevant to their middle and high school students. 

VAST Professional Development Institute
The Virginia Association of Science Teachers (VAST) promotes excellence in science teaching and learning in Virginia and is the Virginia state chapter of the National Science Teachers AssociationAll science educators are encouraged to join VAST and attend their annual Professional Development Institute (PDI).
