JMU Social Work Organization

The Social Work Organization (SWO) offers the opportunity to socialize, meet professionals, and volunteer in the community.   Membership in SWO is open to any student interested in a career in the helping profession. 

Expectations of Social Work Organization (SWO) Officers and Membership:


  1. Update and maintain SWO’s portion of the Student Organization bulletin board

  2. Host an early fall semester social event for social work majors

  3. Plan and implement an Annual Social Work Celebration in observation of Social Work Month (March)

  4. Select recipient of the Gregory R. Versen Honorary Social Work Award to be given during the Social Work Celebration

  5. Plan a fall and spring semester fundraising event to help pay for the Social Work Celebration

  6. Promote a fall semester service project

  7. Identify a representative to attend the JMU Majors Fair for undeclared students with social work faculty members
