National Association of Social Workers

The National Association of Social Workers serves the critical and diverse needs of the entire social work profession.   The NASW Program Unit, a student unit of this nationally recognized organization, is under the auspices of the Whitney Young District, Virginia NASW.  Membership is open to all social work majors who have paid their dues to the National Association of Social Workers.  NASW membership provides students with professional publications, voting privileges in NASW state and national elections, opportunity to serve on district and state committees, and the opportunity to purchase professional liability insurance.

Expectations of NASW-Program Unit (NASW-PU) Officers and Membership:

  • serve as a linkage between NASW-VA and students
  • promote membership in NASW and publicize Whitney Young Chapter events
  • serve on NASW-VA committees as appropriate
  • plan and present one Brown Bag per semester for students that addresses practice and policy issues facing the profession
  • promote and support the Virginia Social Work Education Consortium (VSWEC) National Association of Social Workers (NASW-VA) Student Rally
  • coordinate a job/career fair each March during Social Work Month
