Description: Have you always wanted to know more about Johann Sebastian Bach? Have you ever heard of the Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival? Come learn about both and attend festival concerts and rehearsals. Meet the conductor and some of the musicians involved in the festival. Discuss and hear excerpts of major works to be performed at the festival (Bach’s music as well as the music of several other composers), and learn about the festival’s internationally acclaimed guest artists. Take this opportunity to preview the 16th season of the festival so that you will be able to experience any of the 10 concerts, June 8-15, with a full appreciation for what you will hear and see.
Course Leader: Local musician Mary Kay Adams has taught music for 26 years at schools such as JMU, Eastern Mennonite University, Bridgewater College, Mary Baldwin College, Washington & Lee University, and Arkansas Tech University. She has performed in Roanoke Symphony, Ft. Smith Symphony, Shenandoah Symphony (Lexington), and the Bach Festival Orchestra and received formal training at the University of North Texas. She is the Coordinator of the Bach Festival and Assistant Director of JMU’s Honors Program.
Course Fee: $50.00 course fee includes a discounted ticket to one of the three ticketed festival concerts of the participant’s choice. If additional tickets are desired, they may be purchased separately at the regular price by calling the Box Office at 540-432-4582.
