General Information

BAD WEATHER POLICY

• LLI has developed a “new” Bad Weather Policy. If JMU classes/offices are delayed or closed due to bad weather, then JMU-LLI classes will be cancelled. Please tune your radios into WSVA 1360 AM for information on delays and closings. We will make every effort to reschedule cancelled classes. This policy takes into consideration our increased use of JMU facilities such as Memorial Hall.

LLI encourages intergenerational co-learning.

Directions to classes:  Will be included in your class confirmation letter.

Responsibility on Tours and Class Trips: The tours and class associated field trips of the JMU-LLI require walking and the physical capability to access sites that may have structural obstacles.  By participating, members understand that should they require personal assistance to participate in tours/field trips, they are responsible for securing such assistance.  That responsibility includes registering a person with LLI who can and will be totally responsible for providing all assistance.  That person must register as a member and pay the cost of the tour/trip.

Refreshments and hot water for tea or coffee are available at the beginning of classes. We depend on the help of volunteer hosts/hostesses to set out and clean up refreshment supplies.

To encourage intergenerational co-learning, some courses may include JMU undergraduate students as participants.  We welcome the opportunity to connect with these students and hope you will too.

LLI has purchased new “clip on” name badges.  Badges will be distributed to all members who participate in a course or trip.  Please wear your badges during LLI functions to assist staff, and new and returning members, in becoming familiar with your name.

Refunds/Cancellations: As approved by the Administration/Finance Committee and the Advisory Board, full refunds (except membership fees) will be issued up to the beginning of courses. Please allow 30 days for refunds.  No refunds after the first class meets.  Please see specific trip for refund/cancellation policy.

Financial Contributions: Occasionally we are asked how members can make financial contributions which would directly benefit LLI.  Contributions may be made through the JMU Foundation-Department of Social Work Foundation Account with a designation for LLI.  Make checks payable to:  James Madison Foundation.  Include on the memo line of your check:  SW/LLI/J 14806.  Mail your check to: Department of Social Work, Attention: R. Ann Myers MSC 4303, Harrisonburg, VA 22807

LLI courses held at Memorial Hall (formerly Harrisonburg High School) require parking permits.  Permits will be mailed to members along with their confirmation letters.  Parking permits should be placed on the front dash of your vehicle so they can be clearly seen through the windshield.
