Kathryn Deskin is the recipient of the 2010-2011 Cecil D. Bradfield Lifelong Learning Scholarship. She has demonstrated a consistent and sustained commitment to the field of gerontology. The scholarship money in the amount of $1000 was deposited to her tuition account.

Katie is a social work major and gerontology minor. She has had extensive and varied service activities in the field area of aging. She volunteered with the White Birch Estates, Generations Crossing, Caregivers Community Network, Sunnyside Retirement Community, and Home Instead Senior Care. She functioned as a staff member with the JMU Adult Health and Development Program and completed an internship with The Alzheimer’s Association. Katie’s personal state-ment and reference letters document her compassion, interest and dedication in working with older persons.

Katie will complete her social work field practicum in spring 2011 with the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Department of Social Services. She plans to work in the field of aging upon graduation. We wish her success as she completes her education.
