Ayesha Shakoor joined the Social Work Dept at JMU in August 2007. She moved to USA from her home in the United Kingdom in 2004, and has lived in Harrisonburg for 3 years. Her education was completed in the UK, where she worked initially for 2 years on a voluntary basis with children and adults with learning and physical disabilities in a Day care setting. She then worked with the Government Social Services Department as a Child Protection Officer for 4 years. Her direct experience involves Child Abuse, Court Systems, Family Violence, Teenage Pregnancies, Drug Abuse, Complex case management and Cultural Diversity training within the community. After moving to USA, Ayesha worked in the area of Gerontology and rehabilitation for 2 years.
