Ellen M. Murphy Scholarship in Social Work
The recipient must be a declared junior or senior in social work with a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) at James Madison University and have demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid.
2012-2013 Award Recipient
Rebecca King graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree in May 2013. She completed her field practicum with the ChildFund Caribbean in Roseau, Dominica. where she planned and implemented a four day youth group training retreat for 40 youth leaders, ages 15-24 as part of the “All We Need is Love project. She designed the supporting materials for the retreat including the agenda, activities, a toolkit and an evaluation survey. Among other activities she also analyzed and expanded a microenterprise business plan for six women entrepreneurs. She was a member of the JMU Social Work Organization where she served as historian from 2011-2012, managed the organization website, and organized service projects and fundraising events. She was also a member of the Phi Alpha Honor Society in Social Work and the JMU National Association of Social Workers Program Unit.
